Today's image lies in the parent fractal that results when 2 negative parts of Z^(-22) are combined with 10 negative parts of Z^(-1.2) and (1/C) is added on each iteration.  This parent features an extraordinarily well-formed 'fan' with the blade facing east.  Today's image lies near the terminus of the main spike of a rather twisted minibrot at the northern edge of the blade of the 'fan'.

The art rates a 7.  I put enough effort into the coloring to make the rating an honest one.  The math rating of a 6 is appropriate, since the math trick is well over ten years old.

The name "Satin Ribbons" is a carry-over from an earlier but now discarded coloring of the same image, though a bit of the satin ribbon effect still remains.

The calculation time of 3-3/4 minutes is slow, which could allow impatience and boredom to arise.  Luckily, the FOTD web sites can eliminate this danger.

Today here at Fractal Central began with clouds and flurries of snow.  In the early afternoon the flurries changed to steady snow, which was falling fast as this FOTD was posted.  The temperature rose from a morning low of 3F -16C to an afternoon high of 23F -5C.  The fractal cats noticed the snow, then went about their business of eating, sleeping and playing.  The fractal humans took it as easy as they could in anticipation of path clearing that will be needed tomorrow.
