Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:  

Today's image is named "In a Petri Dish".  I gave it this name in recognition of the current germ scare filling the TV news channels.  The image, with its sickly brown and greenish colors, does remind me somewhat of a disgusting culture growing in a petri dish in some secret biological laboratory.

But actually, it's nothing more than a scene in the parent fractal that results when 0.72 part of Z^(1.4) is combined with 0.72 part of Z^(-1.4) and (1/C) is added on each iteration.  This parent consists of a large figure-8-shaped bay, with a symmetrical ring of debris filling both branches.  Today's image lies in the debris making up the southern part of this ring.

The image itself is rather striking, which justifies the artistic rating of an 8.  The math is old hat however, and could be rated no higher than a 5.

The calculation time of 2-1/2 minutes is about FOTD average, neither surprisingly fast nor disappointingly slow.  And as always, the web sites will make the viewing simpler.

Lots of clouds and occasional bursts of sun made today's weather undecidable here at Fractal Ccentral.  The unusually mild temperature of 75F 24C was pleasant enough, but the brisk breeze occasionally became annoying.  The fractal cats, happy despite the weather, slept and played most of the day, while the humans tended to human things.
