Today's image lies in the almost-Mandelbrot set created by the expression Z^(2.000001)+C.  The only noticeable difference between this 'almost' set and the pure M-set lies along the main negative spike, which in its depths is infinitely sub-divided.

Today's scene is located on the northern edge of the spread-out main stem in the East Valley area of the second sizable minibrot beyond the largest minibrot on the main stem.  (A better way to find the location is to bring the image onto the screen, turn off the logmap and do a series of outzooms.)

The image rates an 8.5, with a half point due to the coloring.  The spider web effect also adds another point or so.

The name "Web of the Spider" has no connection to a radioactive comic book character.  It refers to the network of spider webs radiating from the central minibrot.

The calculation time of 59 seconds is a real bargain for an image with a rating of 8-1/2.  The image will be completed before impatience has a chance to raise its head.

Today's weather left a lot to be dis-satisfied with here at Fractal Central.  The heavy clouds and steady rain that prevailed always make a less-than-ideal day.  The temperature of 55F 13C was not too bad however.

The fractal cats, Cassie and Nicholas, spent the day trying to ignore the inclement weather.  Actually, they did a pretty good job of ignoring it.  FL and I had a typical day -- not good, not bad, filled with minor annoyances and a few satisfactions.  The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.  Until then, take care, and when crossing the next road, be on the watch for one of those hit-and-run fractals.
