March 13, 2012: Outrageous Colors | March 12 | March 14 | 2011 | FOTD Home |
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's
spectacularly colored image lies in a bright little 'pimple' on the
northeast shore line of the 'No Discontinuities' minibrot of two days
ago. The pimple is actually what I unofficially call an area
of
antibifurcation. I checked this area because such features
often
hold unusual and interesting minibrots of all orders.
When I saw the brilliant colors from a distance, I named the image
"Outrageous Colors". Surprisingly, the colors are almost
totally
a production of the under-rated Fractint program, which is probably the
last DOS program still in somewhat widespread use . . . Well, maybe not
quite. I still use WordPerfect5.1 for DOS to do my writing.
The rating of an outstanding 9 includes a full two points for the
coloring, even though my own share of the coloring effort is worth only
1/2 point or so. I normally do not prefer such intense
colors, so
the 9 rating actually understates the colors.
I will make no effort to describe the image, which must be seen to be
appreciated. All I can convey in words is to say that the
image
shows an ordinary, everyday cubic minibrot, surrounded by the expected
cubic 3,9,27... series of elements, all of it decorated in the most
spectacular array of colors yet to be applied to a cubic minibrot.
The calculation time of 2 minutes may seem slow while only the top
blue-gray inch or so of the image appears on the screen, but the
calculation will seem to speed up drastically when the vivid red body
of the pattern around the minibrot comes into view.
Spring-like conditions continued here at Fractal Central
today.
The skies were cloudy most of the time but the temperature reached a
very pleasant 68F 20C, which brought satisfaction to the hearts of the
fractal cats.
FL and I made it through the day without notable incident. We
are
finding less to disagree on while watching the lunch-time nonsense that
passes as news, though we still get a bit testy at times. The
cats, always on the extreme political right, want what they want, and
show their displeasure if they don't get it right away. The
next
FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and
what
will we do if we run out of things to worry about?
