Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:  

Today's curious scene lies in the parent fractal that results when the expression (-Z)^(2.5)+C is iterated.  This parent resembles a M-set that is splitting apart on both its east and west sides.  Today's image lies deep in an elephant star in the East Valley area of the large minibrot on the northernmost of the two main filaments, which explains the name "Elephant Star".

The art rating of a 6 might be conservative.  FL says the image should be rated a 7.  I disagree.  The math rating of a 5 however is right on the mark.  Iterating negative Z, which is the only math trick, is over 20 years old.

The calculation time remains a problem.  7-3/4 minutes is admittedly quite a lot to pay for an image that rates only average numbers.  But here is where the web sites bring relief.

Today brought a mix of sun and clouds to Fractal Central, with a high temperature of 52F 11C.  With the piles of ice rapidly shrinking, it actually seemed a little like spring.  The fractal cats passed the day sleeping, while the fractal humans survived the disappointment of finding that one of the local antique malls had burned down since their last visit.
