April 30, 2012: An Ellibolic Set April 28 May 1 2011 FOTD Home

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image shows the same scene as the image of April 28.  The open area at the center is the same East Valley minibrot; the tendril arms are the same ones that made the previous image attractive.  The difference is that we are looking at the scene from a different angle.

The previous image was sliced in the Mandelbrot orientation; today's view is sliced in an orientation halfway between the Elliptic and Parabolic.  The horizontal direction of the image is the real(c) axis of the Julibrot; the vertical direction lies halfway between the real(z) and imag(z) axes.

The tendrils of the previous image no longer spiral from outside the frame into the central minibrot.  At the angle of today's slice they form loops and cut-off arcs.  These arcs should not be seen as things with only one extended dimension.  They are actually things with three extended dimensions that curve in four-dimensional space.

The minibrot itself bears no resemblance to the familiar Mandelbrot shape.  It has changed into a kind of stretched open area.  This shape is typical of minibrot complexes when viewed in the odd directions.

The name "An Ellibolic Set" refers to the orientation of the slice.  The rating of a 6 is what I think the image is worth.  The calculation time of one short minute is a fair price to pay for an image with so little artistic worth.

The day here at Fractal Central began with brilliant blue skies and lots of sun.  Clouds arrived early in the afternoon, spoiling what could have been a near perfect day, but the forecast rain held off.

From their window, the fractal cats heartily approved of the outside temperature of 63F 17C.  Their greatest thrill came when a pigeon landed on the window sill and began cooing.

The humans greatest thrill came when the day's work was finished and it became apparent that nothing would go wrong.  An even greater thrill will come however when the next FOTD appears in its full glory.  Until then, take care, and it makes people very angry when they hear unpleasant things mentioned that they fear are true but are trying to deny.
