Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

NEW FORMULA ALERT!

Today's image was created by a new formula, which I tweaked up Tuesday.  The formula appears at the end of this message.  Delete the initial <frm:> and copy it into your favorite formula file.  The formula is the same as the original MandNewt06 except for the new p4 parameter, which adds a variable bailout capability.  Increasing the value of p4 evaporates the images; decreasing the value solidifies them.  (The exponent is negative and works in reverse.)

The image was calculated with a bailout value of 2*(10^-29), a value at which the background has broken up into dots but not yet totally evaporated.  Lowering the negative exponent actually increases the parameter value and causes the background dots to become more numerous.  Increasing the exponent has the opposite effect.

The name "Fractal Evaporation" describes the action.  The rating of a 7 would be an 8 on the old scale.  I actually think the image is pretty attractive.

The calculation work may be avoided by viewing the finished image on the official but unfinished FOTD web site at:

      http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html

The image may be seen in hi-def at:

The original FOTD web site is still to be found at:

      http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/

but it has not been updated for several months.

Weather misery prevailed here at Fractal Central on Tuesday, as a steady rain fell all day and the temperature hardly budged from a chilly 48F +9C.  The fractal cats spent the day doing things other than watching the rain.  The day of the humans was near normal.  The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.  Until then, take care, and keep checking the new FOTD web site.  You never know when some outrageous stuff might be posted there.
